VODAFONE - DONGLE WILL NOT CONNECT

How to set an APN

Many Vodafone connection issues are caused by the modem or dongle 'forgetting' It's APN. We are researching why this happens, but until we find a solution we suggest you follow the guidelines below.

FIRST Check that the modem is on the 'working' list:- click HERE

The APN is the Access Point Name, it is the address where a modem can enter the internet. Different carriers offer a public APN, letting customers access the internet.

You may also have access to a private APN for direct access to a company or private LAN. Details are enterred in the same manner.

Set the APN in the router :-

To find out what the APN is Start the Vodafone mobile connect software application :-

Click on Manage Connections

Click on View

Click on New

Select APN in the connections settings window and the APN default is shown.

Exit from the Mobile Connect Software. If you cannot find it ....

It MIGHT be :-

  • SIM Registered in UK

    • internet

    • pp.internet

    • ppbundle.internet

  • in Ireland

    • hs.vodafone.ie

  • in Netherlands

    • office.vodafone.nl

But we know of many different APNs..

Whatever it is please tell us so I can add it to the list.

Plug the modem into the PHS.

Connect to the PHS and go to the Administrator Login ( type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar of your browser)

Type in the password ( default last 6 digits of router's MAC address)

Select Modem tab

A page will open showing details of the modem -------------------->

IF IT DOES NOT check that the modem is on the 'working' list!:- click HERE

If there is a line called 'Profile 1' this is the APN it is currently using. If it is NOT the APN The Vodafone software showed, that is why it will not connect - continue with these instructions.

Click on Settings on the left hand side, scroll down to the middle of and you will see a box called Acess Point Name (APN)

enter the APN and go to top of page and click on SAVE, it will say SUCCESS

Click on Reboot Now. Are you sure? OK

Router will reboot and set the default APN to whatever you typed in. The router should then connect.
